Hulsroy very kindly offered to build my bike up for the show, with the parts on the previous pages, this was originally supposed to take place before the show but learning from experience hulsroy rightly asked for the parts ahead of time in denmark. Asking me to ship the parts and acknowledging, if any of you have seen my sales threads, i hate shipping, said he'd powder the frame for the cost of powder and ensure it was crisp and ready to ride.
a tempting offer, if anyones seen the care hulsetta puts in his own bikes and knowing it was for the show, i obliged. i packed all the parts up and some extra for hulsoppi as a tip or bike friendship bracelett, such as the matching panda thomson stem and sent them tracked, in 3 business days, to denmark and all was going swimingly and customs was paid.
the days went on
nord post we both said
but the silence was unbarable and hulsy' needed these parts for the show; to test tyres before we decided on the final width, colour and tread pattern for reblogs. you know, as normal people do.
we caved, he contacted nord post who again,
Took a few days,
a few more days,
before it arrived
"ello, ah you see the packahge is lohst haha, how u say contact your courier and get the insurance? haha you know we ahd mikkel luk on his snus break and he did not see anything, aha, you know how it is eh?"
dread set in for us both, huls needing parts for the show, me seeing irriplacable parts go up in smoke. ofc, the parts were not fully insured, but regardless of insurance, any enthusiast knows you cannot insure what is out of production, most these parts were customised by my own hands or ebay deals, gifts from friends, what you supposed to do, ensure for thousands of pounds? pay hundereds on import fees? nievety is something i'm known for, but i do not feel like a fool.
as i said to hulsroj, we cannot live our lives expecting the worse to happen.
the bike will be built for the show, hulsonator is working those contacts like a mechanical masseuse
as for my bike? who knows. i have spent so much money on this project it has become a bit of a black hole, i definately cannot justify more any time soon. what was a irrisponsible, albeit beloved purchase that is now one racked with guilt and a tinge of loss. that's before it gets any import fees. with this in mind there is worse problems in the world than someones custom bike build encountering issues and going over budget, this is not written for sympathy.
i'm writing this post after this has all happened, it has been a week or so since we knew what was going on, confirmation came a few days ago. in this time i've been quite sick (im doing well, just sick), im supposed to fly out to germany next week to go to the show, pick what is now just a frame up, a lovely frame, one that will bring years of joy im sure. but one which is tinged with some sadness and will undoubtedly be sore for some time as it sits leaned against my wall, hidden behind warhammer boxes and good intentions. collecting dust and laundry i've failed to put away.
the idea of this bike was to buy one you want to ride not just now, but in years to come, i guess this is the true test of this principle. a twist of irony i apreciate.
i guess i was spurred to write this when scrolling insta just now, sipping the absalute worst coffee i've ever made when i came accross a @Babyldn post about things that had influenced them recently, one being wheelie kids and bmx bars. it made me think of what started this, riding that silly 1x1 round the pump track with the tall bars, not riding far, but enjoying it. it bought a spark of enjoyment for bikes i'd not felt for many, many months. which is good news for the frame as im not sure hulsinio really wanted to build an ornate towel rail.
oh no! gutted! I was really looking forward to seeing how this bike turned out! will join the queue of people offering bits from the spares bins in the hopes of getting it out from under the laundry...
some sad news to the build.
