Also late to the party, meandered into watching The Pacific and on the whole I want the hours back. Had its moments, but somehow they managed to make it more maudlin than Band of Brothers despite the higher gore and PTSD content.

I thought the main issue is that it lost the focus on a single close-knit group - a band of brothers, if you will

Didn't mind that, not least because it lowered the schmaltz level a bit and made it different from their previous effort. That they struggled with the narrative and still delivered way too much sugar was a writing fail all of its own. Ended up seesawing between better and worse than BoB.
