• Just buy decent cables from reputable suppliers, and understand that these will cost a bit more.

    Cheap things will be crap and/or melt.

    At least 3 of the "cheaper" cables I bought weren't able to handle:

    • dock to laptop (needs to handle 65W power plus lots of data including the feed to a 4K 60Hz monitor)
    • laptop to portable monitor (needs to provide both power and data)

    Most annoying for me will be headphones. I don't like earbuds and prefer wired headphones. Eventually I'll need a bunch that have USB-C rather than lightning (I'm still using a few with the old headphone jack using a headphone-jack to lightning adapter).
