I've written about it on here before somewhere but my uncle had a very similar experience when a Pitbull attacked his Alsatian, getting it round the neck.
My uncle is not a small bloke, goes to the gym, is pretty solid. Started punching the Pitbull with everything and it didn't flinch.
He did the same thing, full hand under the collar and put his full weight into it until it passed out and let go.
The owner of the Pitbull was a woman who would have weighed less than the dog
