Yeah I’ve heard that too (monty, naturally). I didn’t pick much earlier in the year and there was so much that I didn’t to waste it. There’s still about a third of the stems left and I’ll chuck some compost on in a month or so and hope for the best.
The RHS think you can harvest until August. I'd take their advice over my secondhand knowledge.
