What are the recommendations for 4 wheel skates, for somebody who’s never skated before? Ideally something from eBay which won’t be expensive, when I decide it’s really hard and can’t do it.
Spend no more than £100 on skates go to Decathlon or Skate Attack. Personally I reckon in-line are easier than quads to learn the basics. You should get protective pads, these are really important.
Echoing Almac and having smashed my wrist skating, I'd definitely recommend good protection. I was using full guards, stupidly the cheapest I could find. Won't make that mistake again.
Have fun though. If you're in London, loads of good skating classes to get you going.
