Yes I think I’m going to push for replacement. A new seat is just under £300 and getting it repaired is going to be a pain in the arse and I’ll be without a bike whilst it’s done. The saddle was also in fairly immaculate condition so me stapling a cover on is never going to look as good.
The fire brigade insurers seem to be not overly fussed about paying out so hopefully they won’t care.
I’d just go for new everything. It wasn’t your fault and it was unavoidable*. You should get your bike back to the condition it was before it got love-tackled.
(As in, you couldn’t have predicted and avoided it. Certainly they could have avoided it by moving more safely.)
