  • I just charge what it takes, no such thing as flat rate in my shop, if its a bigger job, its a bigger job, if it didn't take that much I charge less. Firm believer in a fair price for a fair job.

    Rohloff oil change only inc genuine oil /flush kit is £35
    To flush out both brakes, true wheels, check all the bolts, new cable on rear mech, adjust headset and maybe rake out the freehub and apply correct grease and all the usual bike related stuff you'd be about £80
    If customer brings full cargo with 6"deep layer of child gunk so I can't get to any bolts to remove accessories then yeah add time and cost.
    If customer is considerate, then gsd aren't bad to work on for all the moaning I do about them. It's just all the qc issues on new ones that boils my piss.

    Custom wheel build is£35 labour usually. More for boutique dyneena spoke, carbon rim fancy boi stuff.

    SBC replaced a rear wheel and brakes for me and ended up charging me less than they had originally quoted, as they were able to reuse some pieces. Very rare that a shop does that. I am happy to recommend them to others as fair and honest about the work that they do.

  • No. Glasgow Bike Hive, we do Omnium's, Bullitts and Benno.
    Also fix a lot of Terns, UA and RM's, but will work on any decent ebike or cargo as we have a big workshop and generally know what we are doing. Lots of shops, even established ones that sell Bosch, Shimano and Yamaha based systems don't really get involved in fault finding on these bikes (looks across workshop at least 5 cubes, misc euro brands with bosch and shimano drives needing minor attention) as they are either not confident, skilled or don't have the basic tools (shimano and bosch interface and crank tools are less than £150 and so long as you don't stand on them, will last years just fine) or just aren't interested in doing anything for their customers beyond warranty. Their loss, we scoop up a LOT of these customers who have been subtly pushed away by the original retailer, all of which are happy for the time and repairs in exchange for sensible amount of money, simples**
    **Bosch + Shimano + Yamaha warranty is slower and more tedious than it used to be. Top tip is just don't modify or mess with your motor, or wash it with anything other than a bucket and brush, and you'll be fine, and when things do go wrong, the warranty will help out, because you haven't messed with it. Had a spate recently of modified motors = sorry mate, can only sell you a new one (from mftr, distr and from me).

    SBC are a decent crew, do things similar to us, don't get too big for their boots, don't take mad risks, just do good work and trundle along happily.
