I think she's a good appointment, but it was masterful politics - last week I was genuinely quite worried about Sunak's deal whitewashing the Tories but blammo, Starmer has firmly put the Tories back where he wants them - defending puking and swings and Johnson's lies - and of course Sunak's association with him.
The tories almost shifted the conversation, but their willingness to jump into a big trap marked PARTYGATE just absolutely did for that narrative.
I can't see anyone reliable falling for the Tory attack line that it suggests something improper went on - only Johnson allies and (bizarrely) Corbyn-adjacent outriders. Even Iain Dale has called time on it.
