I thought that but they tried it unsuccessfully (dad and a plumber) apparently. Looks to be slightly rounded and it’s quite a thin nut!
I didn’t read it properly - box spanner, so something socket-like. Can see how you might not get the engagement you need with an adjustable.
If the nut is part of the cartridge, and so disposable, you could always grab it with mole grips.
