I bet the switches and dials felt fantastic to use. Looks like a lovely example of form following function.

Only remember the fear of trying to get clean sound on final year films. No one had enough money to re-record if it wasn't good. So lots of playback to make sure there was nothing errant or obtrusive in the background.
