We've had a simple white howdens kitchen, with the plan to upgrade to those birch plywood / some nice custom doors in the future.
We spent the money we saved on nicer appliences.

Just get ikea carcasses and Doug can do the doors. Places like Plykea et Co are quite expensive for what they are (but still a good option if you don’t have the ability to DIY or get someone else to make them).
