Here's an advert I've just come across by chance. I happened to be reading Cycling for 27th June 1924 (as you do) and I found this:
£9 and 9? Absolute scandal over pricing ;)
That's £9 and 9 shillings, 9 Guineas or £9.45p.
I think that was fairly expensive by the standards of 1924.
