I think it is just the place for it, because whenever I splash out on a luxury I think about the people who can't afford it. Maybe that's just me. I've had a very up and down life, wealth and poverty, sickness and health. And I analyse things a lot. But I don't want to believe that I'm the only one who does.

I think it's more that your slightly random utterances come across as poorly constructed moralistic flailings with very little evidence of a specific position or point. It's all relative. Some people might say that you are worse than the 13 Patek guy by advocating the purchase of deadly weapons for war instead. Some may think that a watch that costs more than a 20 quid Casio is a disgusting overindulgence and is laughing in the face of other people's poverty. Do you think all investments are immoral or just watches, or just Patek Phillipes? Don't answer that, it's a rhetorical question.
Is extreme wealth obscene and bad for our society? I think so, yes. Do I think that opinion needs to be properly framed in a more wide ranging set of priorities and beliefs in order to be taken seriously? Yes.
Do I think that the watch enthusiasts thread on a fixed gear bike forum is a place where that discussion can be fleshed out properly and discussed in depth? No.
Or maybe you are just a troll.

It’s nice to get a different view, for sure. It’s important to be aware of things that happen in the world, no doubt. It’s just that your question comes across kind of like - do you think about over 2 billion hungry people every time you eat?
It’s not that dudes fault he lives in the first world. Maybe he was born into terrible poverty and done really well for himself and he’s clearly smart with his money? Maybe he’ll sell all the other PPs and donate money to charity when he gets the one he wants? I don’t know, and frankly - I don’t care. There’s probably a handful of people in the world who could change everything fairly quickly, from poverty to pollution. But that would mean them making a lot less money, so it’s not going to happen. We’re basically fu*ked anyway, so might as well enjoy the ride?
Sort of unrelated, but if you like to see from different perspectives - check out Soft White Underbelly YT channel. Some people are really dealt a sh*t hand (to put it mildly) from the get-go.

Mate, you’re definitely not wrong. Of course It’s good to give money to charity etc. You could definitely do a lot of good with what it cost to buy 13 Pateks. I think it’s ridiculous to spend that sort of money. (Especially if it includes that gash ugly orange thing, but whatever, different strokes for different folks.)
However this is a thread about watches. People who want to chat about and appreciate watches.
Maybe this guy is so rich he already did loads of good. Who knows.
I just don’t think anyone really thinks this is the place for it.
