  • Rode the 12h a couple of times, the Torchbearer once and the 24h once all as a solo.

The course is usually fantastic and when the weather is good it's outstanding. When the weather's bad, it's horrific.
I've not rode it since the current organisers took over it but if it's as good as it used to be it's a brilliant weekend.
Not sure I'd fancy riding it singlespeed. Depending on the course there can be an absolute killer climb every lap.

You don't need to go through the stream every lap, there's a little wooden bridge next to it but it's treacherous in the wet. First year I raced it they opened a sluice gate further upstream on the Sunday morning and it went from a nice little stream to a raging torrent!

  • Depends which way they run the course.
One way you go up the tarmac climb which is most of the climbing for the lap but it’s relatively steep.
The other way you go up the grass climb away from the campsite. That one’s longer but not so steep.
I’ve only rode it when they’ve used the tarmac climb and had gears, even then after five or six laps it hurts like hell.

  • I know you said you always check the rules but are gravel/cx bikes allowed? I've not done this one but all the offroad races I've done recently say no gravel/cx bikes yet there's always a couple and they do get away with it
