  • Afternoon all. Does anyone have any recommendations for running trainers (mostly park paths but some grass) for a heavier beginner runner? I'm on week six of couch to 5k and not struggling hugely but I suspect some slightly better trainers might help.

I'm not enormous - 100kg - but I'm 45 and very nervous about busting my knees. Currently wearing Nike Run Swift v2.0s which I like but they're apparently designed for short run, and I'll be honest, I'd be much happier if they didn't look like special trainers.

  • I doubt that this is the best value solution but I can 100% vouch for Gel Kayanos for heavier runners. Cushioned as fuck. Did the job when I was at 110kg.

That said, Asics have been making their recent GKs look like granny trainers, so might not be your cup of tea if you give a toss about what they look like.

  • I'll be honest, they look a lot nicer than what I'm currently wearing and if I can worry less about my knees while wearing them to boot, I'll be happy. Appreciate the heads up
