• Bed chat: Daisy is an absolute nightmare through the night, can't decide if she wants in the bed or on top of it and happily changes as she pleases through the night. Current tactic is me sleeping on the settee so she gets used to being downstairs overnight, increasing crate time gradually but overnight still feels like a big leap

  • Have you tried the reverse?
Crate in the bedroom 3- 7 nights by the bed.
    X nights in the corner.
X nights just out the door.
X nights in the nearest room. (Chuck a well worn t shirt in).
Then move to final position. (T-shirt trick again)
If there’s a change in behaviour- go back a step and lengthen it.

(So say most of the guide books I rate anyhow).

With C we just went cold turkey on night 1.
D we’re trying the above. First night was a mess, last two have been good from 11-5:00. (Which is near enough our normal pattern anyway).

  • Yeah we spoke to a behaviourist about it and he suggested similar - just struggling a little bit with tiny house and massive crate/dog!
We tried having her on a tie-out and able to sleep next to the bed but not on it but didn't like having her on lead overnight even if she could move around. Felt like restricting her while it's not her "den" in the way the crate is wasn't great
