  • Recently opened a fresh bottle of Ardbeg Uigeadail. I was overwhelmed by the burned rubber/tar aromas in both nose and palette. Adding water opened up some fruity scents, but still ash/peat was dominating and the finish remained bitter. That’s a bummer as I really liked Caol Ila 12 yo and was hoping Ardbeg will deliver more of that. Going to give it a week and try it again.

  • I wouldn’t say they get better, but they definitely change. All the scents and tastes are the strongest on the first day. Smoke/peat taste is the first one to fade and it was noticeable already after a week with Ardbeg. I think it happens with Caol Ila as well - it is perfectly smoky right after opening and then slowly decays over time to become more brimey.

Have you tried Caol Ila distillers edition?
