I had a kitchen about that size in my last flat and although it was a bit small when cooking big meals it was generally fine 99% of the time (although caveated that I either lived alone or with my girlfriend so there wasn't a point when two people were cooking).
It could obviously be done better to make better use of space but there's not neccesarily a need to leap to knocking down walls.
I also had a fair few quotes to redo mine and some were massive with custom hobs and the like to maximise space but realistically it made very little difference so I wouldn't spend too much on it.
Yeahhhhhhhh like that, but without the weird fake surround. Also get the washing machine into the bath half of the bathroom, the British obsession of having them in the kitchen is crackers.
