I bought an axle mount and knocked this up for exactly the same reason.
Kind of expensive (~£70 for the aluminium and brackets) but am sure something similar could be done much cheaper.

Interesting solution, I was thinking of doing something similar but out of plywood, and have a shelf come up to support the laptop with a lower shelf where to hide the fan. Any reason you went with AL profiles? Other questions: Do you need/use that vertical adjustability you have there? Any vertical slipping? Any reason for having the base parallel to the bike rather than perpendicular?

Are there any options for supporting the fork without using a front wheel?
As in, I'd like a sort of stand to pick up the fork, that doesn't take the same room of the front wheel.
