• When Broadband suppliers send you their routers are the expecting a specific one to be plugged in?

I'm attempting to get Voda to turn on my Fibre to the Door hub. There has been many problems already (City Fibre not setting up telegraph pole points correctly, me breaking an ankle and being in surgery when an appointment was booked).

However, it eventually happened, fibre brought into the house, all good.

Except the hub won't connect, Voda says it won't sync. However I've been sent another hub in the meantime but they haven't told me to connect it.

Are Hubs that fussy that they HAVE to be a specific serial number?

  • Depends on how the service is built and configured.

I used to work for an ISP where we sent out individually configured routers to customers. We would send some XML to a fulfillment centre and they would take a router off the shelf, load a config onto it and put it in the post.

It's possible to have a generic build but then you need a different way of identifying your customers which isn't always straightforward.

  • I suspect this may be the case. Vodafone has a ticket for it but despite me telling them I already have a Fibre Box and Hub they still sent me another one.

Meh. Unfortunately they are the only lot in Leeds who do real FTTP.

I questioned this but the L1 chat guy just said to keep the new hub.

    Voda sucks donkey balls.
