That was it! I remembered something about gorillas. I knew, despite being from Hastings, he couldn’t claim to have been in the Gorillaz...

He was (and I think, sometimes still is) the lead singer and guitarist in early stoner rock trio, Gorilla, with Bill and Bill's ex-Sarah... They were doing that style of music twenty odd years ago, way before anyone else was doing it...
