Some (most?) councils in London only allow residents on-street parking permits for one car per household. It’s fine if you have off-street parking or a garage, though.
I wish Waltham Forest did this, our next door neighbours have five.
Ironically they're the ones always complaining about the parking.

There are exemptions if you are/require a carer or if one resident has a disability permit etc.
