• Key chat - my car will unlock when it registers me standing by the door with the key in my pocket, then I press a button to start it. The range is pretty short - I can do some testing on this, but if it's got any doubts it says "key out of range" and won't do anything.

It also locks itself (even if I'm washing it with the key in my pocket) after a few minutes have gone by. IDK if they're popular with thieves - I suspect the power is attractive but the old man image is a strong deterrent.

  • When I got my s213 from Brooklands they specifically said to double press the lock button, which disables the keyless entry

Exactly the same as my Kia.

This makes it vulnerable to a repeater attack.

Despite needing to be close to the car for it to open when operating normally, the repeaters do not need to be anywhere near as close to your key, for the attack to be succesful.

Repeater devices with ranges of up to 300m are advertised for sale.

This is the Faraday key case I bought.

I think that keyless entry cars should come with a shielding container for the keys.
