Ah, now I feel bad about my dicking about.
Keep an eye on old voodoo wangas with the sliding dropouts. I picked one up for pennies and ran 29 x 2.25. Clearance not ideal if you want to get muddy but rode pretty well for summer off road duties. BB height was reasonable
