  • Decathlon despite being a big shop don't do that well with bikes, worked for them for long though to learn they are not in the cycle trade, they just happen to have bikes.
Guy that heads up the uk cycle division of oxylane is in Manchester, Peter lazurus, totally useless. Had numerous times we had bikes sent that were faulty, me trying to make suggestions how to fix or give useful feedback to factory, his response was "why are you talking to me about it, go about your day".
Other times we would make suggestions about higher end bikes that would actually sell, i.e can we please fucking have some, his response "ill send you what I want, who are you, why are you messaging me".
Is only your new flagship store wanting to improve things! The guy is toxic, decathlons inability to gain any real traction in the uk bike market has a lot to do with him, despite the fact their mid to high range bikes are very good imo.

They also don't want bike mechanics and they don't want bike sales staff. What they want is drones who just point at the bikes when someone asks about bikes and then go back to your new job of fixing up the horse department, because as head of cycle dept in your store, your actual job is looking after everyone else's dept.

My fav was when we had a brand new flagship sized store built, and the market research done prior to spending however many millions it cost consisted of basically asking staff where they think the new store should be and then just making up some footfall numbers (i was there, it was amusing but also so very not amusing really). Once launched the marketing budget was slashed to effectively zero, we were asked in an official manor to please use our personal connections on social media to promote the new store, and if we had any ideas on how to get more promotion for free then the store mgr would be very appreciative, there might even be some gift vouchers in it for them.

They are also terrible to work for, constantly they are changing the goal posts so that you never achieve your set goals and get the monthly bonus you have been promised for 3 years continuously removed or diminished.

Its not just Evans that are bad news.
