  • Well, they‘re both fairly modern from a technical pov, their aesthetics split opinions and they can be had cheaper than both their predecessors and successors.

    It's an interesting comparison, which stands up in some ways but not in others I think.

    The 996 was demonstrably a technically better car than the 993, and 7800 was a technical step forward. For the 996 that technical edge (and the 996 moved the game on far, far more than 7800 did in it's sphere) wasn't enough to overcome Those Headlights.

    Ironically the 997 "fixed things" by going back two generations - so it's as if 7900 looked like a fat version of 7700, leaving 7800 as an avant-garde orphan in terms of it's design within the range.
