when you say same Ethernet segment
Connect them with layer 2 switches, not layer 3 routers.
The typical ISP device combines 4 (or more) things into one box. There is a modem connected to the VDSL line doing the ITU-T G 993.2 stuff. A router running PPPoE upstream and providing local services like DHCP, a switch linking that router to the 4 Ethernet ports on the back and to the integrated access point. I have all 4 functions in different devices.
You probably want everything in your house connected to the same side of the router so things like Chromecast and Airplay work.

Yeah this sounds like it - when you say same Ethernet segment, what does that mean? Might as well have them as different names/networks as phones etc should switch over to strongest, no?
