Can you get the DSL sync speed from the router/modem admin interface?
Plusnet also make it available in their account interface but I assume you don't have the details for that?
Assuming the sync speed is that low it could be an 8Meg ADSL2 service although those haven't been sold for a very long time. Or it could be terrible copper. What does the line sound like (17070 option 2 for a quiet line)? Is the router/modem plugged into the master socket? Is the splitter damaged?

We've just got keys to our new place, our vodafonne broadband doesnt move till march 5th, but they told us we will still get ~66Mbps.
The existing plusnet connection the sellers told us is in place till march 2nd, its an old router, but wired and wifi i get 5Mbps on fast.com - is it even possible to get a 5Mbps connection anymore?
I am worried that theres bigger problems and thats why its only 5..
