Think it has the same stays as my 2018 Outback. I have tried it, and they work, but it's not ideal. Clearance is tight around the chainstay with a 48mm tyre, BB is a bit low. Loads of room at the front though.
At a push you can fit a 700x42 so I don't think it's worth it for an extra few mms.

Ive seen 650 x 42 fit first hand. Not much clearance beyond that.

I wouldn't bother, doesn't have the clearance. I've fit up to a 700x40 in mine but that's about the limit, & the chainstay crimps would be in the wrong place for 650b.
