On the subject of old water pipes. This was the main water line to my old apartment.
Limescale? Mine was like that too and the reason previous occupants had a power shower that trickled out. The bathroom fitter figured it out and replaced the inlet pipe to the flat and the water pressure went up to fire hose level.
Yup. Replaced with pex now (after I moved out...)
