I built these wheels to go with the gravel frame that I’ve recently made redundant. My new bike suits black wheels better and I have 2 pairs of black wheels for swapping between road and gravel setups so these are now surplus to requirement.
I had to search for ages to find some wide, tubeless rims in silver and these Halo Evaura were what I settled on. They are basically a branded up Kinlin xr22. 22mm deep, 24mm wide, 19mm internal. Both rims are symmetrical and 32h.
Spokes are Sapim race double butted.
The rear hub is an XT M756 front converted to iso bolt on rear with a stainless steel axle and Velosolo machined axle spacers.
The front hub is an XT M785 centrelock.
I’m a big fan of bolt on cogs/hubs as it totally removes any worry about your cog coming loose. Velosolo cogs are really nice quality, good and round and if you flip the cog and use it both ways they’ll replace it foc if you ever wear it out. I’ve had one on the go for several years, flip it whenever I’m doing a service on the hub or anything and it honestly is barely even showing any wear. I’m including a Velosolo 20t 1/8” cog that’s been used for less than 50 miles and a cheaper and more used unbranded 18t.
The rims are tapped with Tessa 4289 tape as per Cycle Clinic recommendation and were super easy to set up tubeless and worked reliably with Gravelkings in 43mm and 38mm sizes.
The wheels were built in July and have probably seen about around four or five hundred miles use, mostly in dry conditions this summer.
In initially built the front wheel with a non disc XT T780 hub but swapped them in September as I had built a disc fork. The 785 hub has been used for around 100 miles max. The front rim does show some signs of being used with a brake but it’s really very minor and is discolouration rather than discernible wear. The rear rim has never seen a brake.
