The article in theradavist.com is a complete misunderstanding.
Work on the set of tubes Columbus Max was started in 1985 by two gentlemen: Erzagonasi (Columbus) and Ugo De Rosa.
Columbus Max was available since 1988 and was used by many companies - Eddy Merckx had nothing to do with its appearance on the market.
At EMC, production of the Corsa Extra Max began in summer 1990 and it was immediately available to the general public - 3 versions were created, the last ones were built at the beginning of 1992.
The Mx Leader model appeared at the beginning of 1992 and the only difference between its first version and the last version of CE Max was the top tube from the Columbus Minimax set and the matching top lugs.
At the beginning of 1993 the final, fourth version of Mx Leader appeared with seatstays from Columbus SLX kit and introduced in the third version light BB cover.
