I think a 2.1 or 2.2 front tyre could squeeze in under the mudguard.

Stock Omnium mudguard? My 2" Big Apple just about cleared in height but it nearly touched the bridge for the stays.

Have you discover the joys of re-radiusing yet?

Yes, stock omnium mudguards. We'll see what happens and what needs to be done. Not sure how re-radiusing plastic guards would work.

You have a 2" tyre in the back? Under the stock guards?

No, at the front. I quickly removed the original mudguard as it kept rubbing. I have 40mm steel ones now, which worked out well as the front was comically short for a 700c wheel, but now is fine for the current tyre as well as the correct width after radiusing.
