This is very true! Some Chinese people have told me that they don't like Japan because the people are too polite and I just think, no, fuck that, it is nice to be around people who are civil and have manners and don't treat you like (at best) an amusing oddity.

My sister got a lot of this sort of thing when she worked in Japan .She is tall . Generally people are very polite but it was the groups of tittering school girls mainly.
