• So, many moons ago I signed up with NIHR to be a volunteer for any COVID vaccination trials . About a month ago had an email inviting me for the Novavax trial.
I attended on Monday 26th at the Leeds University site. It was centered on one of the Sports Halls. After a quick registration you sit down with a Doctor for a chat regarding your medical history, let him view your records and details of any meds you may be taking. A Nurse takes your vitals, BP, weight, height, pulse and oxygen levels and temperature. The Doctor then does a physical check heart, lungs, lymph nodes, a push and pull around your stomach, and finally a check on the calves for blood clots?
Off then to another station for blood samples and a Covid swab check. Finally off for the injection, quick and easy in to the upper arm. Off to another station for monitoring, pulse, BP, oxygen levels first 5mins then after 20mins. They have a quick chat giving a long list of symptoms that you have to report in to on an app they give you. That app is in two parts, one local on how your arm is and the other how you feel regarding possible reactions to the vaccine.

There was a whole mix off staff there, all sorts of different uniforms. Whilst at the monitoring station I was looked after by a Paramedic, cheekily I asked if everybody was getting a bit of overtime for this, hoping they was paid for by some huge American Pharma company, but no, all the staff where volunteers as well. He said the only way to beat Covid was via a vaccine and that is why so many had volunteered to work there. He'd travelled 25miles from Sheffield up to Leeds to help out.

Anyway, had no side effects at all to the vaccine and at work this morning I get a text and email, the test I had on that Monday has come back positive, well that's come as a suprise as I have had no symptoms at all, except a hangover type feeling on tuesday 20th, I had been drinking but don't usually suffer hangovers except i'd had a Sherry tasting so was blaming that.

Caused chaos at Work because I work in a big Control room, it does have screens around all the desks and we wear masks when away from them.

Not sure what to expect now, going to be isolating now for 7days, (10 since test) but still trying to find out if i'm likely to get any symptoms, or if that is it? I'm 62 with no background health issues and a low level of cycling fitness so at the moment I'm feeling a little blessed.

  • Hard to say it seems, I read 40-80% of people are asymptomatic.

They check up on you I guess as part of the trial?

And tx for volunteering in the vaccine trial! :)
