Agree with go for it but take some friends & call police as soon as there. Be safe. Also be absolutely sure it is your bike. Serial numbers etc. There must be hundreds of those off the peg Trek hybrids knocking around.

Thanks. That’s what I’m worried about - how I’ll be able to view the underside of the frame to check the serial number. I’m going to message round friends and see what response I get. Thanks all for your replies.
