• I have a no name carbon rim that has apparently been laced, but not ridden. Looking very closely, I can see very slight bulges at some of the spoke holes (hub side). It also looks as thought the spoke holes have been drilled directionally (is this a thing?) as they are staggered ever so slightly left to right of the centre line, but they all leave the rim towards the hub in the centre.

I suspect they may have been laced the wrong way (ie the spokes to right flange in holes intended for left flange).

How likely is that? Also, is it worth building the rim up, or is it a non starter? I'll try and get a good pic of what I mean.

Yeah most modern rims do this. Means the nipple sits flush against the rim. I would delace, check for cracks and only relace (correctly) if the rim looks safe

  • Thanks. That makes sense. Still not sure whether to build up or not. Is there a risk that the nipple seat has warped or something?
