I was actually looking at these yesterday as I've just got a new monitor with USB-C and I want to swap between my desktop setup and work laptop both via the USB-C port. I think what I need is just a short USB-C male to female cable but this is the one I was looking at:

I rate Anker and it sounds like this has more than everything you need, but if you just want HDMI something like the above would be betterer/cheaper.

Issue with that one is that it doesn't have passthrough charge. Assuming the surface pro charges through the USB C port, you can't charge and use the hub.

Best to find one that has a USB C port on the hub that accepts power...

It doesn't it has its own funny little charging port.

In 3 minds between Anker at £22, this one with good reviews and a couple more ports at £25 and Lenovo at £56 (to avoid Amazon). Sure any of them will be ok so long as shipping within UK.

Yeah I recommended that one because @hoefla doesn't need passthrough charge and they're more expensive!

I might though - I'm currently trying to get my head around it. I don't need a USB-C dock because my monitor is one. But practically the USB-C upstream cable goes into the back of the monitor. A short USB-C male to female would let me swap between my desktop and USB-C laptop but ideally I'd also like to be able to charge my USB-C phone, headphones etc.

So I think this means that a hub with passthrough charge would be best. I'd like to keep it all as clean as possible though...
