How much is your life currently being made miserable by "only" having 4G?

In fairness, I'm used to Giff Gaff's 4G, which is pretty low on the priority list. Just don't want to rule out the option if this is the phone I'll be having for the next three years.

I've got a OnePlus 3 which is starting to feel its age a bit - I did get it in late 2016. The screen is cracked, but it still works fine.
I'm considering a OnePlus 7T, which feels like a lot of money, but I'd ideally not want to buy another phone for another three years. Looking at the specs & reviews, it seems like a relatively worthy upgrade, does anyone have any experience? One thing that puts me off a bit is the fact that it's not 5G, which doesn't make it super futureproof.
Another thing I'm considering is flashing a different ROM on the current phone, though I'm not sure how much extra life that'd really give me. It was useful in the past, but not sure if it's worth bothering these days? Been out of the scene a while.
