I've always found them highly durable. Everyone used them for cross country and fell running when I was growing up in the North West, and I have had a few pairs over the years as an adult. The only thing that ever wears out is the tread on the sole.
They look old fashioned, but they are made in the UK and fairly bomb proof. They are neutral and don't have any cushioning, and arguably they are quite specialized for fell running, but I have used them for trail running and cross country and never found that to be an issue.
I bought a pair of Inov8 once and thought they were garbage by comparison.
I'm tempted to get those stupid vibram shoes next... Don't tempt me.
@t-v forgive my snobbery, but they look a bit cheap? Saying that, the ones that I think look durable, are not.
