  • I'm tempted to get those stupid vibram shoes next... Don't tempt me.

@t-v forgive my snobbery, but they look a bit cheap? Saying that, the ones that I think look durable, are not.

  • I've always found them highly durable. Everyone used them for cross country and fell running when I was growing up in the North West, and I have had a few pairs over the years as an adult. The only thing that ever wears out is the tread on the sole.

They look old fashioned, but they are made in the UK and fairly bomb proof. They are neutral and don't have any cushioning, and arguably they are quite specialized for fell running, but I have used them for trail running and cross country and never found that to be an issue.

I bought a pair of Inov8 once and thought they were garbage by comparison.

  • They are great shoes. I have had four paids of them, two of them are still in use.

Mine aren't the wide ones, but they fit my feet perfectly. I can send some muddy shoe photos if you want. There is a lot of Surrey Hills and Hampstead Heath over them.

They do look a bit like bowling shoes though

  • Merrel do a zero drop shoe with Vibram soles (which are great), and have a very spacious toe box. I have wide flipper shaped feet, and they work well with those.
