I've always found it a bit easier to get big road frames than mtb. Even with the longer reach on new bikes, the steeper seat angle would give me a cramped seated position, and most LLS bikes have limited stack*, which might help front wheel grip, but isn't very confidence inspiring when riding down steep stuff
*With the exception of Nicolai, and possibly Pole
