The industry trying to sell us a bike for every slight variation in riding. The industry will probably hit a wall in a few years in terms of the extremes of geometry and then the new thing will be LLS XC bikes, and shorter offset/adjustable forks.

Would you rather every frame had 71/73 angles like they did in the 90s? (With a 130mm stem to match?)
Yeah, there are more niches now, but at least you have a bit of choice as to which one you best fit into.
