  • My house is significantly more vertical than horizontal. It's in a terrace of Victorian townhouses. The solidly upper middle class original owners would have lived in the middle two floors accessed by front steps up to the the upper ground floor front door. The servants would have cooked and worked in the lower ground accessed by another set of steps down. Then they would have gone via the (now missing) cast iron external stairs at the back to their living quarters on top floor attic rooms. One of the quirks of this set up is that we have two "doors to nowhere" at the back of the house which still open onto a sheer drop.

It's not a big is it sounds though. It very narrow. Only one room wide and two deep with one window at the front and one at the back. The bottom two floors are knocked through, so it's effectively a basement kitchen living area that we spend 90% of our time in, then a "grown-up" double living room/office above that that we use in the evenings after the kids are in bed.

Hence I was going down the very steep stairs to the basement kitchen carrying a load of greasy prawn heads and slipped, landed on my arse and clattered all the way to the bottom scattering fishy mess everywhere.

    I'm fucking hurting today.

  • I did something simular carrying 2 bowls of catfood down the stairs to where they were usually fed (70's town house thing). The 2 cats eagerly rushed past me through my descending legs and I tripped, fell and smashed my elbow through the glass window by the front door. Broken glass and catfood everywhere . Cats picking through the debri.
    Catfood.
