Righto, so I've gotten around to finding the forks I was thinking of and they should be Ok for you. Looks like they're for 700c wheels, as I tried them on one and we're noticeably a closer fit than a 27" sized fork I used, although you will still need to use a brake with a fair amount of drop. And the steerer tube hasn't been cut down, so you'd need to do that if taking the fork. Here's some pics:
