I'm wondering if the external concrete slab still extends all the way under the extension to the original outside wall/door. Then the porch area has been built up with another layer of concrete.
If that's the case, extending the French drain would be difficult as the overhang on the sill would make cutting awkward.
If there's little or no fall to the slab, water could be drawn between the two layers of concrete, helped by the cracked slab and dirt under the sill.
