Good shout. I'm very much a noob to this sort of thing. What would be the best way of neatly taking away the concrete and extending the gravel trap?

Borrow or rent an angle grinder with the appropriate blade.

Carefully cut in a straight line, then chisel out.

OK cool...and then underneath? Dig out the soil/sand/aggregate to 8 inches or so and fill it with gravel? Nothing else to consider?
