I've definitely noticed that sight hounds tend to greet each other very gently with a sort of nose fencing ritual. It's nice to see.

Yup, very noticeable that they greet other sighthounds in a different way. All ours have done this. Think they are just breedist...
Also, top tip to any future greyhound owners. Get pet insurance. They do break/injure themselves fairly regularly....

We are surprised at that too, even with whippets they seem to have a very instant recognition. It might be due to shared traits as @danb said. Ball wise, no worries I end up retrieving my own ball regularly 😂
