We settled on greyhounds because of temperament, which we loved as it is quite placid and doesn’t require tons of exercise. Having said that, we still walk Gary 3 times a day (short walks with a toilet break) and try to get them to run in the dog area (short runs with other dogs or fetch ball) 2/3 times a week (10/15 min max) to burn any hyper energy. He also loves coming with us to do chores or quiet pubs. Walk wise we have taken him to forest or country side walks for a morning or an afternoon (max 4 hours). But he his young (3 years) and has no race injuries that we know of. Just make sure you take enough water, and a coat or bandana if it hot as they have not much fat and therefore they get hot or cold much easily.
Kids wise. He is good with babies but not sure how he or the breed in general would react to children. But I can’t see a problem if the children understand that they need to be left to do their thing (sleep and lay around) if they are not feeling social. They are lovely animals but like a giant cat, they like to do their thing.
Rescue wise, not sure if you are close. But I would recommend going to visit Wimbledon Greyhound, they are a great community and they are happy to have you walk a dog for 20 min as often as you want (as they benefit from the socialisation and the exercise). They often have young families there and were great with us

You guys have any advice for someone considering adopting a rescue greyhound? It's something that I've been looking into recently, love the breed and doing research but only ever owned labs before, so the temperament and excerise level is obviously a lot different.
Do they enjoy occasional longer walks?
Do either of you have experience bringing a rescue greyhound into a house with young kids (mine are 2 and 5)?
